“SLIG Academy for Professionals” ICAPGen Scholarship Opportunity

SLIGAcademyYou may be aware that the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy (SLIG) has expanded this year to include SLIG Academy for Professionals.  From the UGA website we read:

“This new program will follow SLIG 2019, beginning on Monday, 21 January, and will focus on professional development topics not offered at SLIG or elsewhere in a week-long, in-depth format. It will open with a special event to commemorate the life and legacy of the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., and end by Friday noon.”

There is still room available in three classes that might be of interest to you as an Accredited Genealogist® professional:

  • Course 2: Public Speaking from Concept to Delivery with Josh Taylor
  • Course 3: Building and Nurturing a Successful Genealogy Business with Jeanne Larzalere Bloom
  • Course 5: Developing and Managing an Effective Institute Course with Mark Lowe

In Memory of JoAnne Haugen, AG®, 1949-2018

JoAnne Haugen2It is with sadness we note the passing of JoAnne Haugen, AG, on 7 Dec 2018.  JoAnne was spotlighted in our blog in September of 2017, and we encourage you to learn more about JoAnne as she described in her own words the forensic work whe was doing.  She was a tremendous professional who made a real difference with her work.

We have included JoAnne’s obituary, which appeared in the Polk County Itemizer-Observer:

JoAnne Culpepper Haugen, 69, of Auburn, Washington, passed away Dec. 7, 2018. JoAnne was born in Prineville on Jan. 2, 1949, to the late William and Donna Culpepper. She grew up in The Dalles, and graduated from The Dalles Senior High School. She also attended Oregon State University, where she graduated with a degree in home economics. JoAnne devoted her time and talents to her family. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, and tending to the home.

JoAnne was also an accomplished genealogist and loved researching her family history. She later worked for the American History Company and for private clients as an accredited genealogist. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she volunteered countless hours.

JoAnne was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Haugen. She is survived by her three sons, Steven Blanch, Jeffery Blanch, and Erik Haugen; and her 10 grandchildren. Services were on Tuesday, Dec. 18, at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1401 SW 13th St, Dallas.
